Surf lessons in Praia da Luz
We pick up in Praia da Luz and drive you to whichever Algarve coast has waves that morning. Luz bay is a lovely swim, but it is not where you learn to surf.

Praia da Luz is a good place to stay and a poor place to surf. The bay is tucked in behind the headland, so most swells slide past it, and on the days something does creep in it is usually small and short-lived. Rather than have you stand in ankle-deep water hoping, we collect you in Luz and drive to the coast that is actually producing that day.
The pickup is part of the normal route out of town, so nothing about the day is a detour and there is no surcharge for staying in Luz rather than Lagos. You get in the van in Luz in the morning and you get dropped back in Luz in the afternoon, with two surf sessions and a lunch pack in between.
Groups are capped at eight surfers per instructor. Beginners start in whitewater on soft-tops and usually stand up in the first session; improvers work on paddling into unbroken waves and picking the right one. The instructors are qualified [CONFIRM: certification body] and have been reading this stretch of coast for 17 years.
Transport, board, wetsuit, sports insurance and lunch are all in the price, so the only decision left is whether you want one day or a pack of five.

Can I surf in Praia da Luz itself?
Rarely. The bay is sheltered and usually flat. That is the whole reason we drive, and why your lesson will almost always be somewhere else.
