Kids and family surf lessons in Lagos
Surf days for families, with everyone in the same van and on the same beach. Children under 13 surf with an adult in the group, and the instructors pick beaches where the shore break is kind.
Price on request
A family surf day works because the whole family goes to the same beach at the same time. Parents are not left waiting in a car park: you can surf alongside your children, or take a session while they rest, and everyone eats lunch on the same patch of sand. The instructor plans the day around the youngest and least confident person in the group, then adds difficulty for whoever wants it.
Beach choice matters more with children than with anyone else. We look for a gently shelving sandy beach with a long whitewater section and no strong pull, which on most days means the south coast near Lagos rather than the bigger west coast. If the forecast means the only surfable option is too heavy for kids, we will say so honestly and suggest another day rather than take you there.
Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult in the group. Kids' wetsuits and small soft-top boards travel in the van. The lesson itself is short bursts of surfing with breaks, because attention spans are shorter than adult arms, and the aim of a first day is that a child wants to come back tomorrow rather than that they master anything.
Family days are priced on request because group size, ages and the number of instructors needed all change the cost. Send us the ages and how many of you there are and you will get a clear quote with no extras added later.

How the day works
1Pickup together
One van, one pickup, whole family. Pickup times: [CONFIRM: pickup times].
2Beach chosen for kids
We pick the gentlest surfable option of the day, usually a sandy south coast beach with a long whitewater run.
3Safety briefing on the sand
Where to stand, how to hold a board, what the flags mean and what to do if a wave knocks you over.
4Short surfing bursts
Twenty minutes in, a break, back in. Children learn faster in short sessions than in one long one.
5Lunch and beach time
Lunch packs and an hour of not surfing, which for most kids is half the point of the day.
6Second session and home
Anyone who still has energy goes back in, then we drive everyone back to Lagos.

Where we surf
Meia Praia is the usual choice for family days: a long sandy beach, shallow for a long way out, and easy to keep a group together.
Porto de Mós when Meia Praia is too small to produce a rideable whitewater.
We generally avoid the heavier west coast beaches on family days unless the teenagers in the group are strong surfers. [CONFIRM: any beaches used specifically for family groups]

Questions
How young can a child start?
[CONFIRM: minimum age]. The real test is swimming: a child who is comfortable in the sea will enjoy the day, and one who is not will be cold and unhappy by the second session.
Do parents have to surf?
No, but an adult from the group has to come along if anyone in the group is under 13. Plenty of parents sit on the beach with a book.
Can siblings of different ages be in the same lesson?
Yes. The instructor sets a base level for the youngest and gives the older ones harder tasks in the same session.
What should the children bring?
Swimwear, a towel, sun cream and a hat for the beach breaks. Everything else is in the van.
